HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive CR #6397 is a detailed, ready-to-run HO-scale model that brings the power and lines of EMD’s Dash-2 workhorse to your layout. Designed for model railroaders who want an authentic, dependable locomotive, it combines a heavy die-cast frame with precise gearing and scale-detail features such as see-through cab windows, fine Celcon handrails, and photo-etch wipers to deliver a convincing, operating-ready performer.

On the tracks, this model offers flexible operation and realistic features. The non-sound version is DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM socket, while sound-equipped variants include an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami and a dedicated speaker, delivering engine, horn, and bell sounds that work in both DC and DCC. Prototypical lighting—LED headlights, ditch lights, and beacons where applicable—along with McHenry knuckle couplers and RP25-contoured wheels supports smooth, authentic running. All functions are NMRA-compatible in DCC mode, and CVs can be adjusted to tailor performance, with a CV chart included. The model is designed for a minimum 18-inch radius, with 22 inches recommended for optimal curves and grades.
