HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive BN #8166 (ATH-1231)

HO-scale Burlington Northern EMD SD40-2 locomotive — a fully assembled, ready-to-run model that captures the look and feel of the iconic SD40-2. It rides on a heavy die-cast frame with fine-scale handrails, see-through cab windows, a detailed fuel tank, and accurately modeled exhaust stacks and radiator fans. Realistic lighting includes LED front and rear headlights, ditch lights, and beacons where the prototype wore them, while features like flexible MU hoses and wire grab irons add to the authentic appearance. The drive is smooth and quiet thanks to all-wheel drive and RP25 wheel contours.

Available in non-sound (DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug) and sound-equipped variants, the latter includes an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami and a single speaker for engine, horn, and bell sounds. It runs on both DC and DCC layouts and supports MU operation. The model is ready to run right out of the box, with a minimum recommended curve radius of 18 inches (22 inches preferred) to ensure smooth curves on typical HO layouts.
