HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive (ATH-1245)

HO-scale EMD SD40-2 Locomotive is a highly detailed, ready-to-run model designed for HO railroad layouts. Reproducing EMD’s Dash 2 freight locomotive, this model captures the rugged silhouette and versatile performance that made the SD40-2 a mainstay of North American railroading for decades, delivering authentic looks and dependable operation on your layout.

On the rails it features a heavy die-cast frame, all-wheel drive with precision gears for smooth, quiet pulling, RP25 wheels for compatibility with most HO track, and bi-directional LED lighting for realistic front and rear illumination. Details such as see-through cab windows, scale Celcon handrails, photo-etch windshield wipers, a detailed fuel tank with gauges and vent pipes, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers add to the prototype feel. DCC-ready non-sound versions include a 21-pin NEM DCC plug, while sound-equipped models come with onboard DCC decoders and SoundTraxx Econami, a single speaker, and operation in both DC and DCC. Engine, horn, and bell sounds are available in DC, with full function control in DCC; a CV chart is included to help tailor performance, and the recommended minimum radius is 18 inches (22 inches is preferred for smoother operation).
