HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive (ATH-1246)

HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive is an HO-scale replica designed for serious model railroaders who want a ready-to-run, highly detailed reproduction of EMD’s Dash 2 freight locomotive. Fully assembled and ready to run, this model captures the SD40-2’s rugged profile with a heavy die-cast frame, a 5-pole motor with flywheels, and all-wheel drive for smooth, quiet performance. Fine detailing includes see-through cab windows, wire grab irons, scale Celcon handrails, photo-etch windshield wipers, a detailed fuel tank with gauges and breather pipes, and LED lighting for realistic operation; prototype-specific paint schemes are faithfully reproduced and the model rides on RP25 wheels for reliable on-track performance. The minimum radius is 18 inches, with 22 inches recommended for best results on typical HO layouts.

Sound-equipped variants add an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami sound, a single-cube speaker, and operation in both DC and DCC—engine, horn, and bell sounds can be heard in DC, with full functionality in DCC and NMRA compatibility for CV customization. A CV chart is included to help tune performance. Non-sound versions are DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug. All versions feature McHenry-scale knuckle couplers, RP25 wheel contours, and bi-directional LED lighting to enhance on-layout realism.
