HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive (ATH-1247)

HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive is a detailed, ready-to-run HO-scale model of EMD’s Dash 2 freight locomotive. Introduced in January 1972, the SD40-2 earned a reputation for reliability and versatility, becoming the best-selling model in EMD’s history and a standard of the industry for decades. This model captures that iconic Dash 2 appearance with faithful detailing and smooth running, making it a convincing centerpiece for any HO-scale layout.

Built around a heavy die-cast frame and a 5-pole motor with flywheels and a multi-link drive, it delivers solid pulling power and quiet operation. Features include all-wheel drive and electrical pickup, RP25-wheel contours for smooth tracking, and fine-scale touches such as see-through cab windows, Celcon handrails, photo-etched windshield wipers, wire grab irons, and a detailed fuel tank. Lighting is bi-directional LED with headlights, ditch lights, and beacons where applicable. For layout flexibility, non-sound versions are DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug; sound-equipped versions add an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami and a single speaker, with engine, horn, and bell sounds operable in DC and all functions NMRA-compatible in DCC; CV chart included in the box for tuning. Fully assembled and ready to run, this HO SD40-2 is designed for layouts with a minimum 18-inch radius (22 inches recommended).
