HO ATH Berwick Bathtub Extended Side Gondola (ATH-1384)

HO Berwick Bathtub Extended Side Gondola is an HO-scale model freight car that reproduces the distinctive bathtub gondola design with an extended side to boost cargo capacity. Bathtub gondolas were developed to haul bulk loads more efficiently by maximizing interior space, and many were later lengthened or reinforced as railroads shifted to lighter fleets, often serving maintenance and bulk-haul roles—details this model captures for realistic era scenes.

Out of the box, it features separately applied grab irons, end ladders, and a brake wheel, with weight added for stable, trouble-free operation. It rides on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and uses body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers for reliable handling on a wide range of HO track. It can negotiate curves as tight as 18 inches, with 22 inches recommended for best performance. The car is primed for grime, duplicating the look and feel of in-service equipment and offering a perfect starting point for weathering to add grime and rust for an authentic, weathered appearance.
