HO ATH Berwick Bathtub Gondola with Load (ATH-1391)

HO Scale Berwick Bathtub Gondola with Load is a detailed model freight car that recreates the classic bathtub gondola designed to haul bulk cargo. Built to look like an in-service car, it features a loaded interior and period-accurate detailing for authentic operation on HO layouts.

Realistic features include separately applied grab irons, end ladders, and a brake wheel, plus body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers and machined metal wheels with RP25 contours to ensure smooth performance on most HO track. The car is weighted for stable, trouble-free operation and has a minimum radius of 18", with 22" recommended for best handling. It’s primed for grime modeling, offering a convincing in-service appearance with base colors faded to prototype tones and an easy starting point for adding weathering such as grime and rust. Bathtub gondolas were designed to maximize bulk cargo capacity by omitting unloading gates, and many were repurposed in later years for maintenance-of-way or other roles, with reinforcements and extensions that kept them in service even as newer equipment arrived.
