HO ATH Berwick Bathtub Gondola Model (ATH-1394)

This HO Berwick Bathtub Gondola is a detailed HO-scale model that reproduces the distinctive bathtub gondola used for bulk cargo on real railroads. It’s available as a standard car or with a load included to add realism to bulk-haul scenes on an HO layout.

On the rails, it features separately applied grab irons, end ladders, and a brake wheel; weighted for smooth, trouble-free operation and using body-mounted McHenry operating scale-knuckle couplers for dependable connections; machined metal wheels with RP25 contours ensure smooth performance on most track brands, while a minimum 18-inch radius (22 inches is recommended) helps it navigate typical layouts. The design is primed for grime, offering an authentic in-service look with faded base colors that serve as a starting point for weathering. In prototype terms, bathtub gondolas boosted cargo capacity by forgoing unloading gates; as steel cars gave way to aluminum, many were repurposed for MOW or scrap service and reinforced to carry heavier, bulkier loads.
