HO ATH Berwick Bathtub Gondola with Load Primed for Grime (ATH-1395)

HO-scale Berwick Bathtub Gondola with Load, Primed for Grime is an HO model freight car designed to haul bulk materials in a compact, high-capacity gondola. Finished in a primed-for-grime look, it provides a realistic starting point for weathering to replicate an in-service car. The model features separately applied grab irons, end ladders, and a brake wheel, plus weighted construction that helps it perform smoothly on the layout. It rides on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for reliable coupling and operation. A minimum track radius of 18 inches is recommended, with 22 inches ideal for best performance.

Bathtub gondolas were developed to maximize internal capacity by omitting unloading gates, enabling more bulk cargo per carload. As fleets evolved to lighter aluminum designs, many of these cars found second lives in maintenance-of-way or scrap service and often received reinforcements to handle heavier or awkward loads. This Primed for Grime variant captures that history, delivering an authentic base color ready to be weathered with grime and rust for a realistic in-service appearance.
