HO EMD SD38 Locomotive with DCC & Sound, NS #3806 (ATH-1441)

HO-scale EMD SD38 locomotive with DCC and sound for Norfolk Southern is a ready-to-run model that captures the look and power of late-1960s freight locomotives on a layout. The SD38, a six-axle diesel-electric produced by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1967 and 1971, delivered about 2,000 horsepower, and this NS-liveried version reflects the prototype with see-through cab windows, front and rear ditch lights, and Ex-Conrail/PC heritage detailing, including a Leslie RS3L horn on the long hood for added realism.

Designed for modern operation, the model is DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug, and sound-equipped variants feature onboard Econami Sound by SoundTraxx. The sound system works in both DC and DCC, with full DCC functions available in DCC mode; engine, horn, and bell sounds are present in DC as well. It rides on a heavy die-cast frame for traction and strength, with fine-scale handrails, separately applied air tanks, see-through dynamic brake and radiator fans, a detailed fuel tank, RP25-wheel contours, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers for reliable coupling. Fully assembled and decorated, it ships ready to run and is suitable for 18-inch minimum radius curves (22 inches recommended). A primed-for-grime option provides an authentic in-service starting point for weathering, with faded base colors matched to the prototype to support grime and rust effects.
