HO EMD SD39 Locomotive ATSF #1565 (ATH-1446)

HO-scale Santa Fe SD39 Locomotive ATSF #1565 is a ready-to-run model designed to bring the look and performance of the prototype to HO layouts. Available in two variants, sound-equipped and non-sound, the locomotive ships fully assembled; the non-sound version comes with a speaker installed and is ready to accept a 21-pin sound decoder, while the sound-equipped model includes onboard Econami Sound by SoundTraxx for authentic engine, horn, and bell sounds. Built on a heavy die-cast frame with precision gears and RP25 wheels, it delivers smooth, quiet operation and strong pulling power on a wide range of HO track. The model captures Santa Fe styling with see-through cab windows, fine handrails, and detailed trim for realism right out of the box.

Inside, it’s prepared for modern DCC setups with a 21-pin NEM plug, and the sound version supports full DCC functions with CV-based customization. You’ll find a fine array of details—separately applied air tanks, wire-formed grab irons, see-through dynamic brake and radiator fans, painted and printed decoration, and McHenry knuckle couplers—plus LED headlights, ditch lights, and beacons as prototypes require. The SD39’s design includes a heavy chassis for traction and a 5-pole motor with flywheels for smooth operation, compatibility with a Genesis motor retrofit kit, and a grime-ready option to emulate weathered service. Minimum curve radius is 18 inches with a recommended 22 inches for best performance.
