HO EMD SD39 Locomotive MNS #40 (ATH-1449)

HO-scale EMD SD39 locomotive, MNS #40, is a ready-to-run diesel that brings late-1960s EMD power to HO layouts. It faithfully reproduces the SD38/SD39 family with a heavy die-cast frame, finely detailed injection-molded body, and features like fine-scale handrails and see-through cab windows. The MNS variant adds an operating rooftop beacon, cab-mounted A/C and antenna, a Leslie RS3L horn on a bracket, slug control boxes, and no class lights for a precise prototype look. Available in sound-equipped and non-sound configurations, the non-sound model ships with a speaker installed and a 21-pin DCC plug to accept a decoder of your choice, while sound-equipped units include onboard Econami sound and full DCC functionality.

On the rails, the SD39 is built for dependable, realistic operation. It’s DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug and rides on RP25-contoured wheels for smooth performance on most HO track brands, with McHenry scale knuckle couplers for authentic coupling. The model features LED headlights, ditch lights where applicable, see-through dynamic brake and radiator fans, and separately applied detailing parts, all supported by a heavy frame for traction. The sound-equipped version delivers onboard Econami sound and full DC/DCC operation, while the non-sound variant includes a speaker and the plug to add a decoder; both support CV adjustments and MU lashups, and can wear a grime-ready finish to mimic in-service wear. The prototype radius is 18 inches minimum (22 inches recommended) for best performance.
