57-foot Fruit Growers Express Mechanical Reefer is an N-scale model of a postwar refrigerated freight car. Fully assembled and ready to run, it’s faithfully scaled from prototype drawings and field measurements, with accurate painting and printing that capture the era. Some versions include onboard SoundTraxx sound to reproduce authentic refrigeration noises as the car operates on the layout.

Detail and fit are designed for reliable operation and realistic appearance: underframe components such as Keystone cushioning, air brake reservoir, control valve, brake cylinder and fuel tank; two exhaust stack styles—the straight pipe with a flapper or the T-shaped “smokejack”—to mirror prototype variations; body-mounted McHenry knuckle couplers; 100-ton roller bearing trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels for smooth performance on Code 55 and 80 rails; injection-molded body, precise paint and printing, and weight that helps keep the car tracking cleanly. The minimum radius is 9¾ inches, with 11 inches recommended for best clearance. Sound-equipped variants use actual reefer sounds with adjustable volume and cycling, and grime-ready finishes provide an ideal starting point for weathering to create an In-Service look with faded base colors and hints of rust.
