57-foot Mechanical Reefer model for HO-scale layouts, faithfully reproducing Fruit Growers Express’s 57' smooth-side mechanical refrigerator car. This model carries the WFEX fleet number 6000 and is designed to bring authentic, era-appropriate detail to layouts that feature freight service, especially for shipments of perishables. It’s scaled from prototype drawings and field measurements to capture the car’s proportions and distinctive equipment for a convincing, hands-on look.

Fully assembled and ready to run, this model includes underframe detail such as Keystone cushioning, air brake reservoir, control valve, brake cylinder, and fuel tank. It offers two exhaust stack styles: straight pipe with flapper or T-shaped smokejack to mirror prototype variations. It rides on 100-ton roller bearing trucks with 36-inch machined wheels that run on Code 55 and 80 rails, and it uses body-mounted McHenry knuckle couplers for reliable operation. The injection-molded body is highly detailed and accurately painted for prototypical realism, and the weight helps ensure trouble-free operation on layouts. A minimum curve radius of 9 3/4 inches is recommended, with 11 inches preferred for smoother handling. Sound-equipped versions feature authentic reefer audio recorded from a real unit, with the sound cycling on and off and volume adjustable while drawing minimal track power.
