57-Foot Fruit Growers Express Mechanical Reefer is a highly detailed, ready-to-run model that faithfully reproduces the classic 57-foot mechanical refrigeration car used to move perishables across the country. It is offered in two configurations: a data-only white-body version and a sound-equipped model to add authentic audio to a layout.

The car captures authentic prototype cues, including underframe detail such as Keystone cushioning, air brake reservoir, control valve, brake cylinder, and fuel tank. Two exhaust stack styles—straight pipe with a flapper or a T-shaped smokejack—reflect the era, while body-mounted McHenry knuckle couplers and 100-ton roller bearing trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels ensure stable operation on standard Code 55 and 80 rails. The model arrives fully assembled, accurately painted and printed, and weighted for smooth, trouble-free running, with a minimum radius of 9 3/4 inches and a recommended radius of 11 inches for reliable layout performance. Sound-equipped variants feature authentic audio recorded from a real reefer unit, cycling on and off with volume adjustable on the sound board. A grime-ready option duplicates the weathered, “In Service” look with faded base colors, providing an ideal starting point for weathering to taste.
