This 57-foot FGE mechanical reefer with sound is a ready-to-run model freight car that faithfully reproduces a Fruit Growers Express mechanical refrigeration car. Based on prototype drawings and field measurements, it captures accurate exterior and underframe detail and arrives fully assembled with authentic paint and printing for prototypical realism. An onboard SoundTraxx sound system provides realistic refrigeration noises and idle cycles to bring a layout to life.

The model offers true underframe detail such as Keystone cushioning, an air brake reservoir, a control valve, a brake cylinder, and a fuel tank. It presents two exhaust stack options—straight pipe with a flapper or a T-shaped smokejack—to match the prototype and era. Body-mounted McHenry operating knuckle couplers ensure reliable connections, while 100-ton roller bearing trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels run on Code 55 and Code 80 rails. Fully assembled and weighted for stable operation, it is painted for realism and ready to run with a minimum curve radius of 9¾ inches (11 inches recommended for smoother curves). Sound-equipped variants feature a track-record of actual reefer sounds, with random on/off cycling and adjustable volume. Primed for grime models, base colors are faded to mirror in-service equipment, providing an ideal starting point for adding grime and rust to match your layout’s era.
