N ATH 57' FGE Mechanical Reefer with Sound (ATH-1490)

57-foot mechanical reefer with sound from Fruit Growers Express (FGE) is a ready-to-run, prototypically accurate refrigerated freight car designed to model mid-century perishables service. Reproduced from prototype drawings and field measurements, it captures authentic underframe detail, two era-specific exhaust stack styles, and period-appropriate features such as body-mounted knuckle couplers for realistic operation on a model railroad.

Riding on 100-ton roller bearing trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels, this model is weighted for smooth performance on Code 55 and 80 track. The injection-molded body is highly detailed and fully painted and printed for realism. Sound-equipped versions feature onboard sound recorded from an actual reefer unit, with volume control and automatic on/off cycling; other variants are primed for grime, offering faded base colors that serve as a starting point for weathering. A minimum turning radius of 9 3/4 inches is required, with 11 inches recommended for reliable operation.
