This 57-foot FGE Mechanical Reefer with Sound is a ready-to-run HO-scale model of a Fruit Growers Express mechanical refrigeration car, built to haul perishables on modern layouts. The sound-equipped version features onboard SoundTraxx sound to bring authentic operating audio to yard work and interchanges.

Underframe details include Keystone cushioning, an air brake reservoir, control valve, brake cylinder, and fuel tank; two exhaust stack types—straight pipe with a flapper or T-shaped smokejack—mirror prototype variations. The car rides on 100-ton roller bearing trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels that run on Code 55 and Code 80 rail, and uses body-mounted McHenry operating knuckle couplers. Fully assembled and ready-to-run, it’s painted and printed for prototypical realism with a highly-detailed injection-molded body and a weighted chassis for smooth operation. The minimum radius is 9 3/4 inches, with 11 inches recommended. For sound-equipped models, authentic sounds are recorded from a real reefer unit and can cycle on and off with adjustable volume; grime-ready variants replicate the weathered look of in-service equipment with faded base colors, providing an ideal starting point for weathering rust and grime.
