HO ACF 2970 Covered Hopper CNW #175121/175155/175189 (ATH-1679)

This HO-scale ACF 2970 two-bay covered hopper, CNW numbers 175121/175155/175189, is a highly detailed freight model designed for realistic operation on model railroads. It features a photo-etched metal roof walk, detailed outlets, and a choice of round or trough hatches, along with separately applied brake gear including brake wheel, brake cylinder, valve and air reservoir with wire brake plumbing. Body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers, factory-applied wire grab irons and stirrup steps, precision-machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, and screw-mounted trucks all contribute to a convincing, smooth-running model that is weighted for reliable performance and designed to navigate layouts with minimum 18-inch radii.

The Primed for Grime version offers a ready-made look of an in-service car with faded base colors matched to the prototype and is an ideal starting point for adding grime and rust. In real service, this 2-bay hopper began life in the 1950s, carrying dense loads such as cement and sand. The 1960s Centerflow design by American Car and Foundry introduced a rounded body for added strength and easier gravity unloading, and this 2,970-cubic-foot capacity car remains a classic example of that era's freight equipment.
