HO ACF 2970 Covered Hopper MON #52068 (ATH-1687)

HO-scale ACF 2970 two-bay covered hopper, road number 52068, is a detailed model built to represent a mid-century bulk-carrier. Inspired by the Centerflow design introduced by American Car and Foundry in the 1960s, the car features a rounded body that strengthens the structure and makes gravity unloading easier. With a 2,970-cubic-foot capacity, it’s well suited for depicting cement, sand, and other dense loads on HO layouts.

Model details include a photo-etched metal roof walk, realistic outlets, and round or trough hatches. The brake system is represented with separately applied gear—brake wheel, cylinder, valve, and air reservoir with wire brake plumbing—plus body-mounted scale knuckle couplers and factory-applied wire grab irons and stirrup steps. It rolls on screw-mounted trucks with precision-machined RP25 contoured metal wheels and is weighted for smooth operation on layouts with an 18-inch minimum radius. A primed-for-grime version reproduces the in-service look, with faded base colors matched to the prototype and a ready-made starting point for adding grime and rust.
