N 50' FMC DD Offset Box Car (ATH-1763)
This N-scale 50' FMC Double-Door Offset Box Car is a fully assembled, ready-to-run model that faithfully recreates the mid-1970s FMC boxcar look. It features a highly detailed injection-molded body, a scale-profile brake wheel, screw-mounted trucks, and a weighted chassis for stable operation on Code 55 and Code 80 rail. The car rides on roller-bearing trucks with machined metal wheels and uses McHenry knuckle couplers for secure, easy coupling, while accurate paint and printing bring the prototype to life. A clear plastic jewel box is included for storage, and the minimum curve radius is 9.75 inches to keep it track-friendly. Primed for grime, this model offers the authentic starting point for weathering to resemble in-service equipment with base colors matched to the prototype.
Historically, FMC built 50-foot outside-post, non-terminating-end box cars in the 1970s, with door configurations varying to suit customers. This model captures that heritage, making it a versatile addition to N-scale freight trains and ideal for era-specific scenes or modern layouts alike. It is designed for reliable operation on standard layouts, with its weight and roller-bearing trucks helping ensure smooth performance in long consists and yard work. The grime-ready finish invites weathering to recreate a convincing in-service appearance.
