Norfolk Southern SD40-2 HO-scale locomotive NS 3272 is a ready-to-run model that faithfully captures the look and feel of the Dash 2 era on your layout. It rides on a heavy die-cast frame for added traction and uses a precision five-pole motor with flywheels for smooth, quiet operation. Realistic detailing includes see-through cab windows, flexible MU hoses, a detailed fuel tank with gauges and breather pipes, and fine-scale handrails and windshield wipers, while NS-specific features such as a high short hood and bell-on-long-hood silhouette help reproduce the prototype’s characteristic profile.

This model is offered in two configurations: a DCC-ready non-sound version and a sound-equipped variant with onboard DCC decoding and SoundTraxx Econami sound. The sound version includes a single-cube speaker and NMRA-compatible function control, with engine, horn, and bell sounds operable in both DC and DCC layouts; some functions may be limited in DC. Both variants arrive fully assembled and ready to run, with LED headlights and, where applicable, ditch lights, plus reliable current pickup and RP25 wheel contours for broad track compatibility. It’s designed for HO layouts with an 18-inch minimum radius (22 inches recommended) and road-name specific NS detailing that captures the locomotive’s authentic presence on NS trains.
