HO SD40-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound, RBMN #1983 (ATH-1816)

HO SD40-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound in RBMN 1983 livery is a ready-to-run HO-scale diesel designed to bring authentic power and operation to any layout. It includes a DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami and a single speaker, delivering engine, horn, and bell sounds on both DC and DCC layouts. It rides on a heavy die-cast frame with a 5-pole motor and precision gears for smooth, quiet pulling power, while RP25-contoured wheels ensure reliable tracking across common track brands. Realistic detailing includes see-through cab windows, wire grab irons, fine-scale Celcon handrails, photo-etch windshield wipers, and fuel-tank detail with gauges and breather pipes, plus separate air tanks for added realism. LED front and rear headlights, ditch lights, and beacons illuminate the prototype’s look, with McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for accurate coupling.

RBMN-specific styling is faithfully reproduced, including mid-production body with corrugated grilles, dynamic brakes, and an 88-inch nose with ratchet, plus a 4000-gallon fuel tank and HTC sideframes. The model features onboard DCC decoding and SoundTraxx Econami sound, and is NMRA-compatible in DCC mode, with some functions limited in DC. A CV chart is included to help tune performance and enable multiple-unit lashups with lead-unit horn, bell, and lights. Fully assembled and ready-to-run, this RBMN SD40-2 pairs well with a diverse roster on layouts that use 18-inch minimum radii (22-inch recommended) and a broad range of track brands.
