HO 65' Mill Gondola SSW 72007 (ATH-1943)

This HO-scale 65-foot Mill Gondola, SSW 72007, is a detailed freight car designed to carry long, heavy loads common to steel-mill service. Reproducing the era’s rugged riveted construction, the model features fold-down ends that open to clear overhanging loads, making it a realistic centerpiece for yard scenes and mainline runs.

Equipped with working drop ends, separately applied wire grab irons, interior detailing, and a weighted chassis for steady tracking, the gondola rides on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for smooth, reliable connections. Decorated and fully assembled, it’s ready to run out of the box, and its 18-inch minimum radius fits a wide range of layouts. Inspired by a 1940s General American design, this gondola was built to carry extra-length loads such as long beams, with end panels hinged to fold inward and, in prototype operation, often paired with flatcars at each end to provide clearance for the overhang.
