HO RS-3 Locomotive with DCC and Sound (ATH-2162)

An HO-scale RS-3 diesel-electric locomotive with DCC and sound, built for model railroaders who crave authentic operation right out of the box. This ready-to-run model combines a 1,600-hp ALCO prototype with modern electronics, including DCC-ready Quick Plug plug-and-play via a 21-pin NEM connector and Econami sound powered by a cube speaker for rich, controllable audio. It features LED lighting, see-through etched radiator fans and cab windows, a heavy die-cast frame for traction, and fine-scale details like metal grab irons and handrails to deliver a convincing, on-the-rail presence on any layout.

The RS-3 was produced by the American Locomotive Company from 1950 to 1956 as a 1,600-hp B-B diesel-electric locomotive and became a durable workhorse on North American lines. On this model, an all-wheel-drive layout with precision gears, RP25 wheel contours, and a 5-pole motor yields smooth operation and strong pulling power, while onboard DCC with SoundTraxx Econami provides realistic engine, horn, and bell sounds (DC operation is also supported). Fully assembled and ready to run, it carries accurate paint schemes and detailed finishes, and it’s compatible with standard HO layouts requiring an 18-inch minimum radius (22 inches is recommended) for best performance.
