HO RS-3 Locomotive with DCC and Sound (ATH-2163)

HO Scale RS-3 Locomotive with DCC and Sound is a ready-to-run model designed to faithfully reproduce the ALCO RS-3 diesel-electric locomotive of the 1950s on HO layouts. It includes DCC with SoundTraxx Econami sound, a single cube speaker, and Quick Plug plug‑and‑play technology via a 21-pin NEM connector for easy setup. Built on a heavy die-cast frame with a five‑pole motor and all‑wheel drive, it delivers smooth, quiet pulling power, while fine details like metal grab irons, fine-scale handrails, see-through etched radiator fans and cab windows, and McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers boost realism. LED lighting, RP25 wheel contours, and accurately painted and printed schemes round out the look, and the model is fully assembled and ready to run. The minimum radius is 18 inches, with a recommended 22 inches for best performance.

Prototype-accurate history informs the RS-3's look and performance, reflecting the 1,600-horsepower ALCO RS-3 diesel-electric introduced in the early 1950s. Sound-equipped versions feature onboard DCC decoding with SoundTraxx Econami, a single cube speaker, and operation on both DC and DCC layouts with excellent low-speed performance. All functions are NMRA compatible in DCC mode, and many CVs can be adjusted to tailor lashups; a CV chart is included to help configure multiple-unit consists with a lead unit horn, bell, and lights. Engine, horn, and bell sounds work in DC as well, though some functions are limited in DC, and the model carries authentic paint schemes and scale detailing designed to complement HO layouts and a wide range of track brands.
