HO Athearn 60' Gunderson High Cube Double Door Box Car KCS (ATH-2278)

An HO-scale Gunderson-built 60-foot high-cube double-door boxcar in Kansas City Southern (KCS) livery, this Athearn model recreates a modern freight car designed to carry a wide range of loads. It’s intended for HO model railroads, delivering a believable addition to any layout as it handles everything from auto parts to forest products on contemporary freight trains.

Detail and running performance emphasize realism, including body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers, separately applied wire grab irons, etched end platforms, and razor-sharp painting and printing. The car rolls on 36-inch metal wheels with RP25 contours, is weighted for smooth operation, and accommodates layout curves with a minimum 18-inch radius (22 inches recommended). It’s primed for grime, providing a convincing in-service look right out of the box and serving as a solid starting point for weathering to add rust and wear. Similar paint schemes from the closely related Trenton/Greenbrier-built boxcars are offered as stand-in models.
