HO-scale Athearn BethGon Coalporter with Coal Load in CSX livery is a faithful model of Bethlehem Steel’s BethGon coal car, designed for realistic coal-hauling scenes on a model railroad. The prototype’s all-aluminum body and trough-style bottom increased capacity and lowered the center of gravity for steadier tracking, and the model faithfully captures these design cues with CSX decoration and a removable coal load. One end carries a rotary coupler to mirror unloading without uncoupling, while weighting helps ensure smooth, reliable operation on typical layouts.

Fidelity continues with separately applied brake wheel, wireform grab irons, and etched coupler platforms, plus body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers. The model rides on 36" machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and features a highly detailed injection-molded body painted for realism. It is designed for HO layouts with an 18" minimum radius and is offered in multiple road-number configurations to fit a CSX coal-train roster.
