N ATH Bethgon Coalporter with Coal Load, NS #50874 (ATH-2310)

BethGon Coalporter with Coal Load is an N-scale model of Bethlehem Steel's BethGon coalporter, designed for realistic coal-hauling on model rail layouts. The prototype features all-aluminum construction and a distinctive trough-style bottom, known as the bathtub design, which increases cargo capacity while lowering the center of gravity for steadier tracking in long unit trains. One end carries a rotary coupler to allow a train to be fed through a rotary unloader without uncoupling.

Additionally, the model includes a removable coal load, a separately applied brake wheel, and 36" machined metal wheels with RP-25 contours. It rides on screw-mounted 100-ton roller bearing trucks, is weighted for smooth operation, and uses body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers with painted and printed decoration. Compatible with Code 40, 55 and 80 rails, it has a minimum radius of 9¾ inches, making it a versatile addition to an N-scale coal service on layout, with the removable coal load offering extra display options.
