N ATH Bethgon Coalporter with Coal Load (ATH-2318)

An N-scale faithful rendition of the Athearn BethGon Coalporter with Coal Load, this model reproduces the Bethlehem Steel Johnstown American coal car designed for efficient unit-train coal service. It features an all-aluminum body with a trough-style bottom for added capacity and a lower center of gravity that helps it track reliably, a hallmark of the bathtub design. The coal load is removable, and one end carries a rotary coupler to allow unloading through a rotary unloader without uncoupling.

For realistic operation, it rides on 36-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and runs on Code 40, 55 and 80 rail. Screw-mounted 100-ton roller-bearing trucks provide sturdy support, and the model is weighted for steady performance. Body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers, a finely detailed injection-molded body, and paint/lettering give a lifelike appearance. With multiple road numbers and a minimum radius of 9 3/4 inches, this car is a versatile addition to coal trains and mixed-traffic layouts.
