An HO-scale replica of the Athearn EMD SW1500 Switcher Locomotive, this model reproduces the compact, 1,500-horsepower diesel switcher that powered light branch lines and industrial yards from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. Notable for its bulkier carbody and two exhaust stacks, the SW1500 is faithfully captured with a highly detailed injection-molded body and a realistic cab interior. Legendary Liveries—an Athearn exclusive—offers classic and alternate paint schemes to suit a range of eras and railroads.

Designed for versatile layout use, this model is offered in DC and DCC-ready formats, with Quick Plug plug-and-play technology for 21-pin NEM decoders, a refined 5-pole skew-wound motor, and LED lighting for long life. Realistic touches include see-through radiator grilles and cab windows, separately applied grab irons, MU hoses, and ground lights, plus RP25 wheel contours for smooth running on common track.
