HO Athearn SW1500 Locomotive NOPB #1502 (ATH-2525)

An HO-scale model of the EMD SW1500 switcher locomotive, this Athearn replica is built for realistic operation on hobby layouts as well as display in a roster. The real SW1500 was a four-axle diesel switcher produced by GM’s EMD between 1966 and 1974, designed for light branches and industrial yards with about 1,500 horsepower. This model captures the locomotive’s chunky silhouette, dual exhaust stacks, see-through radiator grille, and detailed cab interior, and it’s offered in Legendary Liveries that give collectors a range of historically inspired paint schemes for prototyping or roster additions.

On the layout, it delivers smooth, dependable performance with a newly designed, quieter can motor, LED lighting, and an all-wheel drive system for steady operation. The model is compatible with both DC and DCC, and it is DCC-ready with Quick Plug 21-pin NEM compatibility; sound-equipped versions add an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami and a compact speaker for authentic engine, horn, and bell sounds. Finely detailed bodywork—frame-mounted handrails, separately applied grab irons, see-through cab and radiator openings, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers—pairs with RP25 wheels and operating ground lights for a truly prototypical appearance, while 18" minimum-radius compatibility makes it ready for most modern HO layouts.
