HO-scale Athearn EMD SW1500 Switcher Locomotive is a detailed model of the 1,500-horsepower diesel switcher used for yard work and industrial switching on HO layouts. This release covers two road-numbered versions—the standard ATH-2530 and the Legendary Liveries LN 5015—each faithfully reproducing the SW1500’s distinctive profile with dual exhaust stacks, see-through radiator grilles and cab windows, LED lighting including lit ground lights, and a well‑appointed cab interior. It’s built for roster-building and realistic switching scenes in yards, industrial sidings, and shortline operations.

On the bench, the SW1500 features a refined drivetrain for smooth, reliable operation, including all-wheel drive, precise gearing, and RP25 wheels for compatibility with popular HO track. It includes McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee compatible) and is designed to be DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM connector for easy decoder upgrades. Some versions add onboard DCC sound with SoundTraxx Econami and a single speaker, while the Legendary Liveries LN edition adds a striking historic paint scheme that enhances any yard scene. The model is designed for layouts with an 18-inch minimum radius, ensuring it handles common HO curves with confidence.
