HO-scale 45-foot Fruehauf Z-Van Smooth-Side Trailer is a detailed model designed to bring authentic long-haul trailers to HO layouts, ideal for creating realistic road and rail scenes.

Originally offered as a 40-foot trailer, the Z-Van later expanded to 45 feet, with refrigeration equipment options and different landing gear configurations and door rod designs. Construction progressed from ribbed-side to beaded-side, with the smooth-side version representing the most modern method. The Athearn HO-scale model offers three distinct body styles—ribbed, beaded, and smooth—providing a versatile, realistic addition to road- and rail-based layouts spanning the 1970s through the 2000s.
