HO 45' Fruehauf Z-Van Trailer Smooth Side Model (ATH-2612)

HO-scale 45-foot Fruehauf Z-Van Smooth-Side Trailer is a detailed model designed for HO layouts, adding authentic refrigerated trailer traffic to both road and rail scenes. This Athearn recreation provides a faithful replica of the late-20th-century Z-Van in smooth-side form, ideal for dioramas and freight trains alike.

Originally launched as a 40-foot design, the Z-Van family later included a 45-foot version; some 40-foot trailers were extended to 45 feet in service. The smooth-side variant represents the most modern construction method, following earlier ribbed and beaded versions. Refrigeration equipment was available, and different landing gear and door rod configurations existed. With three distinct body styles, this model offers versatility for HO layouts depicting freight operations from the 1970s through the 2000s.
