HO GP40-2 Locomotive CSX #6214 (ATH18260)

HO GP40-2 Locomotive CSX #6214 is an HO-scale, ready-to-run model built to deliver realistic CSX operation on a home layout. Based on the GP40-2 design and tracing its lineage to former WM (Chessie) units, this locomotive wears CSX’s 1990s YN2 scheme and features forward ditch lights added during that era. It is fully assembled and decorated with scale details such as see-through cab windows, Celcon handrails, illuminated front and rear headlights, and illuminated ditch lights (or strobes, depending on the road name). The model carries corrugated or chicken-wire grilles, a 2600–3600 gallon fuel tank, and a K5 horn, along with dynamic brakes. A heavy die-cast frame houses a 5-pole motor with precision flywheels and a multi-link drive for smooth, quiet operation. The locomotive rolls on nickel-plated, blackened machined wheels with RP25 contours and uses McHenry scale knuckle couplers; it is DCC-ready with a 21-pin plug. New features include Sound Ready, with speakers installed and the option to add a 21-pin sound decoder.

On the layout, the GP40-2 delivers dependable power for switching and mainline work thanks to a 5-pole motor with flywheels, all-wheel drive, and reliable electrical pickup. The heavy die-cast frame contributes to traction for pulling longer trains, while the separately-applied horns and RP25 wheels enhance realism and tracking on standard HO track. With the 21-pin decoder interface, sound can be added to taste, making this CSX-liveried locomotive a versatile addition to any HO railroad, capable of handling minimum radii of 18 inches (22 inches recommended).
