HO GP40-2 Locomotive AMTK #650 (ATH18264)

HO GP40-2 Locomotive AMTK #650 (ATH18264)

The AMTK-liveried HO GP40-2 Locomotive, road number 650, is a detailed, ready-to-run model that recreates Amtrak’s GP40-2 units from the 1990s. These locomotives typically ran without their own head-end power and were often paired with an F40PH to provide HEP, a history captured in the model with period cues like chickenwire grilles, a five-chime horn, a small front plow, and operating dual strobes.

Built for HO layouts, this locomotive blends faithful prototype detail with modern performance. It features a heavy die-cast frame for traction, a 5-pole motor with precision flywheels and a multi-link drive train for smooth, quiet operation, and all-wheel drive with reliable electrical pickup. Exterior touches include see-through cab windows, Celcon handrails, illuminated headlights and ditch lights or strobes, and grills in either chickenwire or corrugated styles, with a 2600- or 3600-gallon fuel tank. It carries separately applied horns, McHenry scale knuckle couplers, and RP25 wheels for realistic operation. The model is fully assembled and decorated, DCC-ready with a 21-pin plug, and ships with a speaker installed for immediate sound; it’s ready to add a 21-pin sound decoder if desired. Minimum radius is 18 inches and a 22-inch radius is recommended. New features include Sound Ready with speakers installed and the option to add a 21-pin sound decoder.
