HO GP40-2 Locomotive NS #3035 (ATH18266)

Norfolk Southern GP40-2 locomotive, road number 3035, is an HO-scale, fully assembled model designed to bring authentic late-1990s NS power to your layout. It reproduces key details such as corrugated grilles, a dynamic braking system, and a Leslie 3-chime horn, along with front and rear ditch lights and a small EMD plow. These GP40-2s entered NS service after NS acquired a large stake in Conrail in 1999, giving this model a heritage-accurate look for realistic operation and display.

Under the hood, the model uses a 5-pole motor with precision-machined flywheels and a multi-link drive for smooth, quiet operation, plus an all-metal die-cast frame and all-wheel electrical pickup for reliable traction. It features see-through cab windows, factory-installed Celcon handrails, illuminated headlights and ditch lights, and either corrugated or chicken-wire grilles depending on the road name. The wheelset is nickel-plated, blackened, machined with RP25 contours, and it rides with McHenry scale knuckle couplers on a DCC-ready 21-pin plug—making it easy to install sound. The model is fully assembled and pre-painted, with decoration for realism, and now sound-ready with speakers installed—ready to accept a 21-pin sound decoder of choice. Minimum operating radius is 18 inches, with a recommended 22 inches for best performance on typical layouts.
