HO 50' FMC 5347 Box Car MEC / Pan Am #31414 (ATH18701)

The HO 50' FMC 5347 Box model car is a detailed replica of a box car used primarily in the 1970s. This model features a newly tooled body with road-specific doors, allowing for an authentic appearance on your layout. The car is equipped with separately applied grab irons, end ladders, and a brake wheel, all contributing to its realistic look.

To enhance performance, the model is weighted appropriately and features 33” machined metal wheels with RP25 contours. The body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers ensure smooth coupling operations. Each car is painted and printed for realistic decoration, and it can operate on a minimum radius track of 18 inches.

The prototype history traces back to the mid-1970s when a boom in per diem box cars began. FMC, or Food Machinery Corporation, was a significant builder of these cars, which saw various designs tailored to meet customer specifications. Even today, the 50' FMC box cars are a common sight in modern railroading.
