An N-scale representation of the BNSF Auto-Max articulated auto rack, this model recreates Gunderson’s long, multi-car carrier that can haul up to 22 SUVs on three internal ramps. With a prototype-inspired silhouette—over 140 feet long and about 20 feet tall from the rail—the model makes a bold, believable statement on an N-scale layout.

Highlights include separately applied brake detailing and a simulated corrugated roof, plus full articulation via a flexible diaphragm to mirror real movement. The car rides on screw-mounted trucks with machined metal wheels and is weighted for steady, reliable running, while McHenry operating-scale knuckles and a highly detailed injection-molded body enhance realism. It’s designed to run on Code 55 and Code 80 track and negotiate a 15-inch minimum radius. In prototype form, Gunderson introduced the Auto-Max in 1999 as a long, tall carrier capable of carrying 22 SUVs on three internal ramps, pushing the operational and clearance limits of the railroad—the same scale presence captured in this model.
