This HO-scale 60-foot container is a milestone for intermodal modeling, delivering a genuine 60-foot unit to HO layouts for the first time. The Athearn line currently offers Version 2 and Version 3 of these containers, designed to connect with standard 40-foot attachment points and a high-cube profile for realistic intermodal action on well cars.

Introduced in 2015 for the Canadian market, these extra-long containers were developed to support long vehicle combinations up to 40 meters and are well suited for bulky but light cargo. In real service, the 60-foot container is typically carried in the top position of a 53-foot well car and is often shipped empty to Canada. The real containers are produced by Singamas Container and Dong Fang Container International, with design cues such as trapezoidal side ribs, vertical front ribs, flat rear doors, and reinforced rear doors in later variants. The HO-scale model captures these details, making it a realistic addition to intermodal scenes or Canadian long-vehicle layouts.
