HO SW1500 Locomotive Union Pacific #1023 (ATH29667)

An HO-scale Union Pacific SW1500 switcher locomotive, road number 1023, designed for authentic yard and industrial switching in model railroading. The model faithfully captures the SW1500’s bulkier profile with dual exhaust stacks and a host of prototype details, including operating ground lights, a detailed cab interior, frame-mounted handrails, MU hoses, and drop steps, along with finely rendered wire grab irons, see-through radiator grille and cab windows, and a choice of low- or high-mounted windshield wipers for prototype accuracy.

Under the hood, it features an improved five-pole skew-wound motor with flywheels and a multi-link drivetrain for smooth, quiet operation, plus all-wheel drive and electrical pickup for reliable performance on a variety of layouts. It is designed for DCC use with a 21-pin NEM connector and Quick Plug, and DCC- and sound-equipped versions add on-board SoundTraxx Economi sound with a single cube speaker. The model rides on RP25-contoured wheels and uses McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee-compatible), LED lighting, a separately applied air tank, and see-through radiator grille detail. New features include operating ground lights, a more powerful and quieter can motor, and printed number boards, while prototype history notes that SW1500s were built by EMD between 1966 and 1974, shared a frame with the SW1000, and were widely used for light branch-line or industrial service—often inherited by UP through mergers.
