HO SW1500 Locomotive Southern Railway #74L (ATH29672)

HO SW1500 Locomotive Southern Railway #74L (ATH29672)

HO SW1500 Locomotive Southern Railway #74L is a detailed 1:87-scale model of General Motors’ EMD SW1500 switcher, designed for yard switching and light freight work. This Southern unit carries distinctive modifications like a firecracker antenna, long frame-mounted handrails, a large fuel tank, and footboards removed at both ends, with two exhaust stacks that define its profile. Built for 1966–1974, the real SW1500 delivered about 1,500 horsepower from an EMD 645E engine and was commonly used on light branch lines and in industrial settings.

The model packages a wealth of authentic details and reliable operation: lit ground lights, a detailed cab interior, fine-scale handrails, see-through radiator grille and cab windows, and front/rear trainline hoses with silver glad hands. It rides on flexicoil trucks with all-wheel drive and electrical pickup, and uses McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee-compatible). DCC-ready versions use a 21-pin NEM connector, while sound-equipped variants include an onboard decoder with Economi sound and a single speaker; LED lighting provides long life, and CVs can be programmed for a prototypical, smooth performance. The minimum radius is 18 inches, making it compatible with a wide range of layouts.
