N Thrall High Side Gondola with Load, CPR #2 (ATH3881)

The N-scale Thrall High-Side Gondola with Load, CPR design, is a precise representation of Thrall’s mid-century coal-haul gondola, built for coal service. It’s designed to run on Code 40, 55, and 80 rail and features machined metal wheels, screw-mounted 100-ton roller bearing trucks, and body-mounted McHenry scale operating knuckle couplers, plus a separately applied brake wheel. The injection-molded body is highly detailed and painted to prototype accuracy, and the car is weighted for steady, trouble-free operation. The minimum curve radius for smooth operation is 9-3/4 inches.

Primed for grime, it provides an authentic “in-service” look with base colors faded to match the prototype and an ideal starting point for adding grime and rust. Thrall was a recognized freight car manufacturer from the 1960s through the 1980s, known for high-side gondolas and rotary-dump coal cars; in the 1980s, Thrall acquired several rival manufacturers and became the largest U.S. producer of these cars. With detailed workmanship, sturdy mechanicals, and a weathering-ready finish, this model is well suited to mid-century coal-hauling layouts.
