HO SD40T-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound SP #8243 (ATH71847)

An HO-scale SD40T-2 tunnel-motor locomotive in Southern Pacific livery, designed for DCC- and sound-enabled operation on HO layouts. This model is equipped with an onboard DCC decoder and SoundTraxx Econami sound, offering authentic engine, horn, and bell sounds and full DCC functionality while still running on DC if needed. It features signature SP details such as a late Dash-2 cab, cab-mounted Nathan 3-chime horn, and front/rear lighting with a Gyralight effect, capturing the distinctive look of the tunnel-motor prototype.

Built for reliable performance, the model uses all-wheel drive with precision gears, a 5-pole motor with flywheels, and a multi-link drivetrain for smooth, quiet operation. The chassis is DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM Quick Plug and can accept a Genesis motor retrofit kit for higher performance. Fine-scale detailing includes handrails, photo-etched windshield wipers, see-through cab windows and radiator grilles, separately applied air tanks, wire grab irons, and LED lighting. It supports MU lashups and a range of function options through CV adjustments, with an 18" minimum radius (22" recommended) ensuring smooth operation on common HO layouts and ideal for legendary SP liveries or weathered grime-ready schemes.
