HO Scale Ready-to-Run Southern Pacific SD40T-2 Locomotive, road number 8299, recreates the SP’s 1990s tunnel-motor era in a ready-to-run model for HO layouts. This six-axle diesel-electric captures the distinctive cooling design that earned the SD40T-2 its “tunnel motor” nickname, delivering an authentic silhouette and presence on any Southern Pacific roster.

The model arrives fully assembled and ready to operate, featuring fine-scale handrails, see-through cab windows, separately applied details, LED lighting, and a complete set of under- and over-body details. The chassis uses a reliable 5-pole motor with flywheels and an all-wheel drivetrain for smooth, quiet performance, and it’s DCC Ready with a 21-pin NEM Quick Plug. Other features include nickel-plated, blackened machined wheels on RP25 contours, McHenry scale knuckle couplers, rubber trainlines and MU hoses, and a recommended minimum 22" radius for best operation. It also includes a “Primed for Grime” presentation with faded base colors and prototype patches to provide an authentic starting point for weathering.
