HO RTR SD40T-2 Southern Pacific #8370 Locomotive (ATH72066)

An HO-scale ready-to-run SD40T-2 locomotive in Southern Pacific livery, road number 8370, designed to bring the 1990s tunnel-motor era to a layout. This six-axle diesel-electric model reproduces the prototype’s 3,000-horsepower EMD 645E3 engine and the distinctive rear-radiator cooling arrangement that defines the tunnel-motor variant.

The model is built for realism and dependable operation, featuring fine-scale handrails, see-through cab windows, separately applied air tanks, welded ECAFB, photo-etched windshield wipers, and LED lighting. It rides on an all-wheel-drive drivetrain with a 5-pole motor and flywheels for smooth, quiet performance, and it’s DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM Quick Plug connection. The injection-molded body is meticulously painted and printed for authentic decoration, and maintenance parts (including motor brushes) are available. A 22-inch minimum radius is recommended for best running, and there is a Primed for Grime variant offering faded base colors and road-number-specific weathering to kickstart a weathering project.
