HO SD40T-2 Locomotive UP #2930 (ATH73043)

An HO-scale Union Pacific SD40T-2 tunnel-motor locomotive, unit 2930, designed for realistic operation on model railroad layouts. This reproduction reflects a late-1990s UP repaint of a former SP unit, capturing tunnel-motor styling and UP refinements such as the 88-inch nose with brake wheel, a cab-mounted air conditioner, front ditch lights, and a UP-style front plow, with fine detailing like see-through radiator grilles, photo-etched windshield wipers, and separately applied grab irons for an authentic look.

Under the hood, the six-axle, all-wheel-drive drivetrain uses a 5-pole motor with flywheels for smooth, quiet operation, complemented by nickel-plated, machined wheels and precise decoration for reliable tracking. The model is available in standard DC/DCC-ready form and as a sound-equipped variant with an onboard DCC decoder and SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound; the sound version supports DC operation for engine, horn, and bell, and full DCC functionality with CV adjustments and MU lashups. A 22-inch minimum radius is recommended for best performance on typical layouts, and the real SD40T-2’s 3,000-horsepower, six-axle design reflects its tunnel-motor purpose and rugged reliability.
