HO SD40R Locomotive in Southern Pacific Kodachrome is an HO-scale model designed to faithfully reproduce the SD40R diesel in the iconic Kodachrome finish. This highly detailed locomotive is built for realistic operation on standard HO layouts, featuring LED headlights, see-through cab windows, photo-etched windshield wipers, separately applied grab irons and air tanks, curved radiator fan grab irons, coupler cut levers, rubber MU hoses, and a finely molded injection-molded body. DCC-ready with a Quick Plug 21-pin NEM connector keeps digital installation simple, and sound-equipped variants include an onboard SoundTraxx Econami decoder with a compact speaker, providing authentic engine, horn and bell sounds that work in both DC and DCC.

On the rails, the SD40R uses Flexicoil-C trucks with RP25 wheel contours for reliable track performance, and offers all-wheel drive plus all-wheel electrical pickup for smooth, quiet power. A 5-pole skew-wound motor with flywheels and a multi-link drivetrain delivers steady operation, while features such as a 4,000-gallon fuel tank, frame-mounted bell, exhaust stack and McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee-compatible) capture the prototype’s look. The model is designed for an 18-inch minimum radius (22-inch recommended) and, in DCC mode, NMRA-compatible functions with working lighting (F5/F6) and MU lashups.
