Recreating the classic EMD SD40, a 3,000-horsepower turbocharged V16 locomotive from the mid-1960s, this model captures the prototype’s silhouette and authentic details—from see-through cab windows to dynamic brakes and radiator fans—making it a compelling centerpiece or working unit on any layout.

Designed for reliable operation and easy integration, it features LED lighting, photo-etched windshield wipers, separately applied grab irons and air tanks, a detailed 4,000-gallon fuel tank, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers compatible with Kadee. The model rides on Flexicoil-C trucks with RP25 wheel contours for smooth tracking and is DCC-ready with Quick Plug plug-and-play technology and a 21-pin NEM connector for easy decoder upgrades. Sound-equipped versions include an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami, a single speaker, and operation in both DC and DCC modes.
